About the Chief
The HTR Chief provides the comprehensive oversight for the Heavy Technical Rescue Program in the Commonwealth. In addition, the HTR Chief provides the specialized training for Virginia's Fire Service in relation to the HTR Program. The HTR Chief maintains a comprehensive list of the instructor cadre, locations of logistical trailers for support, and the on-going training sites throughout the Commonwealth.
Heavy and Technical Rescue Teams
Heavy and Technical Rescue Teams have been designated in seven (7) divisions through out the Commonwealth. They provide specialized emergency response services such as: Trench Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Vehicle Rescue, Water Rescue, Rope Rescue, Farm Machinery Rescue, Structural Collapse Rescue, and Wilderness Search Rescue. These teams are activated through the State EOC: 800-468-8892

- What gear is recommended for the HTR Courses?
Full Fire Fighter Gear (if possible) or heavy duty coveralls, long sleeve shirt, long pants, work boots, gloves and eye protection.
