Accessibility Policy

Through its Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is promoting a high degree of Web access for people with disabilities. In coordination with organizations around the world, WAI is pursuing Web accessibility through five primary areas of work: technology, guidelines, tools, education and outreach, and research and development. To help support the WAI, the Virginia Department of Fire Programs is complying with W3C guidelines for Web accessibility. In addition to ensuring that most parts of the graphic website comply, Virginia.gov has created a “text only” version of the site that meets all CAST and W3C guide lines. Document Accessibility Notice: Hard copy documents are available for those unable to access or view the downloadable files on this website. Virginia Dry Hydrant Grants

Distribution of funding related to this grant is managed by the Virginia Department of Forestry.  Please contact the Virginia Department of Forestry, Fire Branch at 434/977-6555 for additional details. Knowing about a quantity of available water in area streams, ponds and cisterns gives an advantage to a fire department only if the water is readily accessible. Soft or obstructed ground may limit access. Or, the needed water may be located so far away from where it is needed that a fire department’s ability to do its job of fire control is impaired. Mobile water supply vehicles can move water from distant sources, but the critical factor is whether or not the fire department can maintain an uninterrupted supply of a predictable rate of water at the fire scene Installation of dry hydrants into numerous nearby and developed water supplies eliminates the inefficiency and complexity of long-distance water shuttle operations. This arrangement also allows access to water sources from a roadway instead of having to work on soft ground immediately adjacent to the pond or stream.

VFSB Training Mini-Grant

Beginning FY2013 (July 1, 2012), there will be no available funding for this Program. New Grants Info On August 11, 2000 the Virginia Fire Services Board (VFSB) adopted a policy of providing grants, termed “Mini-Grants” from the interest earned by the Fire Programs Fund. The VFSB Committee on Fire Prevention and Control was charged with the responsibility of administering such program in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP). A provision was adopted to restrict such grant to activities – projects and programs which positively impact and/or further fire service training within the Commonwealth. The maximum award for any Mini-Grant is $10,000.00. Localities (324 statewide: Counties, Cities, Incorporated Town) may submit one application per fiscal year (during years in which funding is available) for all interested, participating fire departments within their jurisdiction.
